Los Angeles, CA (April 1, 2005)–In response to feedback from the leading financial and
commercial institutions around the world, Card Scanning Solutions has developed Check
Reading capabilities as a value-added feature of its popular IdScan line.
The IdScan Driver’s License Card Scanner is already recognized worldwide as the only card
scanner on the market capable of reading the various and newest versions of licenses from all
50 states, as well as all government-issued cards and selected international identification cards.
With its newest Check Reading feature, within seconds of placing the check in the scanner, the
system’s revolutionary OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Technology will pull the check
amount, bank information and issuer information as well as the routing number, account
number and check number from the check’s face and parse them into text fields of a database
application. A high-quality 24-bit color image file of the check can also be automatically saved
for archiving and security purposes.
The development and addition of Check Reading to the IdScan line came in response to
cross-industry demand for better protection from fraud and the need for more high-tech and
time efficient ways to maintain records; the scanners are frequently used to combine access
control with general operational management functions. With Check Reading, institutions and
businesses use the same piece of hardware to accurately capture both ID cards and checks,
while automating the databasing process to reduce human error.
While the IdScan has long been a leader in the industry in scanner accuracy, range and costefficiency,
its added functionality of Check Reading now brings additional versatility, making
it an integral and invaluable tool for financial institutions, credit unions, check cashing
establishments and any operation needing accurate information gathering and high-tech
archiving/databasing.
